Born and raised in Australia, I have always loved art and animation. A few years ago I decided to finally go after the childhood goal that always seemed insurmountable... move to LA and work in the animation industry.
I have always focused on creating art throughout my life but in my early twenties I side stepped into professional wrestling... yes, you read that correctly. For eight years I wrestled and performed across Australia and America. I won championships, gained an action figure of myself and have some amazing stories. It was a unique experience to say the least.
While wrestling and creating art I also spent over a decade producing and performing hiphop music. Realeasing music in stores, getting radio play and performing in front of large crowds was amazing but still seemed somehow more attainable than my animation goal.
I even attempted to gain a world record just for fun. Why not. 4 Gaming World Records later and yet another goal off the list.
After also having a successful Graphic Design career behind me I finally decided to tackle the big one. Get to LA! I studied constantly, kept drawing and painting so I could confidently chase the animation dream. My wife and I had an opportunity to move the USA and just like that, we left behind an entire life and everything we knew. There were some tough times and many obstacles to overcome but 4 suitcases and 2 plane tickets later, we moved to the other side of the world.
We landed in LA not knowing anyone and attempted to start a new life. It wasn't easy but we got ourselves set up and started job hunting. For the first two years it was a challenge trying to gain clients and get freelance work. All the while aiming for an animation job. I stayed focused and after 2 years I managed to work with Disney Publishing, Cartoon Network (Mighty Magiswords), Thinkwell and my first full time role at Rough Draft studios.
I love what I do and I'm so happy I stuck with it and saw the hard work pay off. I still have many goals ahead of me and can't wait to tackle them too. I look forward to seeing my name in the credits of many shows and films, alongside the many talented artists in LA. I also look forward to continuing to produce amazing and unique art pieces, attending conventions and teaching more plein air classes. My next class will be with the Walt Disney Family Museum in October 2017.
